Lincoln county Volunteer firefighters were called to the school at 259 Boonshill-Petersburg Road shortly after 4 o’clock to a report of smoke in a conference room.
There were some tense moments at Unity school Monday afternoon. Lincoln county Volunteer firefighters were called to the school at 259 Boonshill-Petersburg Road shortly after 4 pm to a report of smoke in a conference room. Fire officials praised the staff at the school for quickly activating the fire alarm and evacuating the building. Firefighters quickly arrived on the scene and determined the smoke was coming from a locked up motor in a heating unit. There was no fire and the smoke was quickly extracted from the building. Damaged was confined to the motor. Fire officials also thanked Fayetteville Public Utilities and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department for their quick response. Lincoln County school maintenance personnel checked the rest of the building and school will be in session as usual Tuesday morning.
