Tennessee officials are warning consumers of a company attempting to sell insurance products in the state without a license. The Department of Commerce and Insurance said Monday that LifeX Research Corporation has been telling people they could obtain health coverage through LifeX by becoming employees. “However, LifeX is not licensed to sell major medical health insurance in Tennessee. Consumers have also been told the coverage would be issued by a well-known issuer, which is inaccurate,” TDCI says. “No licensed health insurers offering major medical coverage in the State of Tennessee provide coverage to Tennessee consumers through LifeX.” TDCI Commissioner Carter Lawrence said that purchasing an insurance plan from a company not licensed to sell in Tennessee “could have disastrous financial consequences.”
