TBI Asking For More Money To Fight Drug Cartels

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is asking for more money to fight drug cartels.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is asking for more money to fight drug cartels. The TBI told lawmakers, cartels have been sending drugs through the mail now that President Trump’s administration has tightened security at the southern border. During a recent budget hearing, the TBI said the cartel has shifted tactics in recent years, moving away from traditional border smuggling to using mail carriers to move dangerous drugs into communities across Tennessee. TBI Director David Rausch said cartels have been using mail delivery systems ever since the tightening of border security. He said they’re taking advantage of the U.S. Postal Service along with other shipping companies. The TBI has asked Gov. Bill Lee for more than $3 million for 13 new staff positions to increase their presence at shipping hubs to try to stop packages before they reach communities across the state.
