20 Citizens from Lincoln County are learning what it takes to run a sheriff's department.
Citizen cadets enrolled in the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department Citizens Academy learned about the massive and complicated task of running an 865-thousand square foot jail. The cadets got to see first hand what corrections officers have to deal with 24 hours a day 7 days a week. From booking an inmate into the jail to feeding inmates, addressing their medical needs and, of course, maintaining order in the jail. The Citizens Academy is an 8 week course where citizens have the opportunity to learn about their Sheriff’s Department and what it takes to operate such a department as well as see first hand the challenges deputies face daily on the job. Next week cadets will learn about the D.A.R.E. program and what it means to be a school resource officer.
