On November 3rd, 1998 between 2 and 3 pm, an off duty police office saw a white Ford Van with Grinnell Fire Protection logos on the side and back parked in a gravel pull off on Old Railroad Bed Road just north of the Alabama/ Tennessee state line. Later that evening the off duty officer noticed the van had not moved and went to investigate. He found the body of 24-year-old Gregory Lumont Jackson inside and called the Lincoln County Sheriffs Department. The investigation revealed that Jackson was last ween alive about noon that day at a job site in Madison. He told a co-worker he had to leave but would be back to the job site. He never returned. Investigators say evidence indicates that Jackson died from violent means and was left at that location.
