In the 152 years that TVA has been collecting data this looks to be the fourth worst year in history.
Lincoln County Mayor Bill Newman and EMA Director Doug Campbell took part in a webinar conducted by TVA yesterday concerning the drought and how that is affecting the watershed into their systems across TVA’s 7 state region. Normal rainfall run off from January through April has been about half what they normally see. This has caused issues with their system of dams not being at full summer pool by this time of year. TVA has Federal guidelines they have to meet in order to maintain the quality of the streams and rivers for both navigation and for supplying drinking water to about 5-million consumers. Boaters are being advised to use extreme caution on waterways due to the lower lake levels. Any rainfall over the next three months may help farmers with their crops but unless unusually substantial will not provide runoff that will affect river and lake levels. In the 152 years that TVA has been collecting data this looks to be the fourth worst year in history. Thankfully the recent rains did help Tim’s Ford Lake reach full summer pool which is good news for Lincoln, Franklin and Giles Counties and those who rely on the Elk River for water and agricultural purposes.
