Carl Dimond Chapman Afternoons 3p-6p

For Carl, radio started as an obligation but, soon after, became a lifelong passion. At 16, Carl's broadcasting-pioneer father, Ed Chapman, heavily suggested that he take the nighttime DJ slot at WEKR am in Fayetteville, Tennessee. While not thrilled with the job at first, it all changed when a few female high school classmates, who had never really paid him much attention at school, approached Carl to let him know they were listening and then asked if they called him on the request line and ask to play their favorite song? Would he? Carl’s response was amazing and so creative. “(Gulp!) Absolutely!” That moment sparked a 15-year radio career, filled with music, storytelling, and audience connection.

After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University, he worked full-time at WEKR alongside his Dad, then moved on to become an air personality at WBGY (Boogie 93). He later became General Manager and Morning Air Personality at WIIZ Jacksonville, NC, and eventually Program Director at WYCQ (C103) Shelbyville.

Stepping away from radio, Carl went on to build careers in financial software and real estate. He retired in 2008 and concentrated on tennis, golf and travel. When John Malone, President and CEO of Elk River Media, invited Carl Dimond Chapman to "come back home" to 98.5 The Elk/WEKR, the answer was clear - radio was still in his blood.

Now, Carl brings his love of music and his passion with his signature segment, Dimond Cuts, weekdays from 3 – 6 pm (CST) on 98.5 The Elk. His love for classic rock and blending nostalgia with fresh info that resonates with longtime rock lovers and new listeners alike. And yes, Dimond truly is his middle name!

Beyond radio, Carl is married to his lovely wife, Kyle Chapman, and feels like he is married to his Tri-Pawed Golden Retriever, REO (named after REO Speedwagon). Carl is also the proud father of Fayetteville native, Caleb Chapman and grandfather (Papa) of 4 fantastic grandchildren. He is an avid tennis and pickleball player, hitting the courts multiple times a week. When he’s not fine-tuning the soundwaves, he’s exploring the world—his favorite travel destination is the Greek Islands, while his favorite U.S. getaway is Key West, FL. When it’s time to unwind, he enjoys a Dirty (Filthy) Martini on the rocks, a plate of chicken piccata, and no dessert beats Mom’s Chess Pie. A few of Carl’s favorite artists include, Steely Dan, Supertramp, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Styx and Jefferson Starship.
